A Letter From Jenn & CJ:
A Home Where Tired Souls Can Heal

Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Fellow Dog Lovers,

If you have ever spent time in Baja, you know the quiet spirit of the dogs here. Some have lived their entire lives navigating the arroyos and dusty streets. Others once had a warm porch and a loving human, only to find themselves suddenly alone when their person fell ill or passed away. And some carry the visible scars of rough beginnings and long neglect.

For the past several years, our lives have been dedicated to these overlooked souls. We focus on the ones traditional rescues often have to pass by: senior dogs with gray muzzles and tired joints, displaced animals who are grieving, and dogs nearing the final chapters of their lives who simply deserve to know comfort, safety, and love before they leave this world.

For so many of the dogs who find their way to us, this is the very first time in their lives they have known peace.
We watch fear slowly leave their eyes as simple, soft routines take hold—a nourishing bowl of food served at the same time every morning, cool tiled floors during the midday heat, gentle hands that never ask for anything in return, and long, quiet afternoons resting in the shade.

Dogs like our inseparable bonded white shepherds, Trooper and Hope, who look out for each other with gentle devotion. Or sweet mama Nela, who arrived from El Campamento exhausted and pregnant, and fought through a grueling twenty-hour labor to bring her surviving pup into a world where they will never know hunger or fear.

Caring for these dogs has been the greatest privilege of our lives. But fostering out of temporary spaces is fragile, and the need in our community grows every month.

We have found the place where our rescue family can finally put down permanent roots: an authentic Mexican hacienda right here in Los Barriles. We are writing to you today with humble hearts to ask if you will walk beside us in making this forever home a reality.

The Hacienda: A Sanctuary of Peace & Purpose

The property we have chosen feels like it was built for healing. It is a traditional single-level hacienda set behind secure perimeter walls, private off-street parking, and a peaceful garden courtyard that will serve as the heart of our sanctuary.

• The Central Courtyard & Sensory Garden: Shaded by classic red arched colonnades and native bougainvillea, the courtyard centers around a tiered stone water fountain. The sound of running water brings a soothing calm to dogs recovering from trauma, while paved walkways and a fenced turf run provide a safe, secure setting for gentle exercise and supervised socialization.

• Quiet Senior & Hospice Suites: Inside, the home offers spacious, easy-to-sanitize tiled rooms equipped with air conditioning for Baja’s intense summer months. These suites will be furnished with thick orthopedic memory foam beds, soft rugs, and quiet acoustic separation so that elderly dogs and hospice patients can sleep undisturbed.

• Clinical Intake & Nourishment Suite: A dedicated, plumbed workspace with stainless wash counters, medical refrigeration for temperature-sensitive medications and vaccines, and a prep area tailored for specialized geriatric diets.

• Round-the-Clock Caretaker Residence: We believe no vulnerable animal should ever be left alone in the dark. The property includes dedicated on-site living quarters for a full-time caretaker, guaranteeing 24/7 observation, prompt administration of nighttime medications, and immediate response to any medical emergency.

• Alfie’s Saturday Marketplace: The covered front veranda will house our community thrift store. Every Saturday, we will open our doors to the community, selling donated home furnishings, art, décor, and pet goods. This marketplace connects our neighbors directly to our mission and creates a sustainable source of independent funding.

Honest & Transparent Stewardship: Why $70,000 Pesos a Month Protects Our Dogs

When we first dreamed of securing this property, our initial thought was to gather 50 families contributing $1,000 pesos a month ($50,000 pesos) and hope that Saturday thrift store sales would cover the rest. But as anyone who has cared for sick or elderly animals knows, life-or-death rescue work cannot rely on hope alone. Thrift store donations fluctuate naturally—especially during the quiet, sweltering summer off-season when seasonal residents return north, foot traffic slows down, and electric bills for air conditioning surge. If store sales fall short, basic necessities like rent, food, and veterinary bills are put at immediate risk.

To give these dogs true, unbreakable security, we need a reliable baseline of $70,000 pesos per month (~$3,850 USD). This guarantees that our essential operating expenses are 100% covered before the month even begins. When our core costs are secured, 100% of proceeds from our Saturday thrift store become a wonderful bonus accelerator—allowing us to fund complex surgeries, specialized diagnostics, and facility improvements without ever jeopardizing daily food or shelter.

One of Many Stories — Echo

Echo’s life began with hardship.

She had been bred repeatedly, left weak, and eventually abandoned — staying behind, waiting for a family that never came. By the time she was found, she was severely underweight, sick, and fighting to survive.

Echo faced more than most dogs ever should. She battled parvo, anemia, starvation, tick fever, and neglect. She had every reason to give up, but she didn’t.

With care, treatment, and time, Echo slowly began to heal.
After months of recovery, her true nature emerged — gentle, loving, and deeply resilient.

Despite everything she had been through, she still trusted, she still loved.

And then, something beautiful happened.

A family had been quietly following her journey from the very beginning — even when her future was uncertain. They waited, they hoped, and when she was finally ready… they chose her.

Today, Echo is home. Surrounded by love, safety, and the life she always deserved.

This is what your support makes possible.
